Science and technology are the most important achievement of human being to solve their biggest challenges. Almost all our efforts to solve our problems are based on science and technology. We dealt with environment destruction, population exploitation, natural disaster, as well as epidemics utilizing science and technology. The most important thing about the utilization of science and technology is how it benefits humankind. On the other hand, the application of technology without considering its benefits and flaws may result in a disaster.
Human needs and the increasing human population have an impact on food needs that continue to increase, in accordance with the needs for agricultural land and plantations which are also increasing. Furthermore, the need for shelters pushes the conversion of agricultural land into housing and public facilities that reduce agricultural areas. This has led to excessive exploitation of natural resources and intensification efforts by using increasingly advanced technology. Industries are blooming and energy needs are also increasing, most of which cannot be renewed. In 2014, global consumption of renewable energy was a quarter of total energy consumption. As we know, energy use is also a source of pollution. all together, they have an impact on reducing the quality of the environment.
Based on the paradigm of Society 5.0, science and technology should help to improve the quality of human life without damaging the environment and social structure. For example, solving environmental problems are always associated with data processing (searching, managing, analysing, interpreting and presenting). The data is needed to be able to solve environmental problems appropriately and efficiently. This field of science and technology comprises of various fields such as food technology, agribusiness, biology, urban planning, mathematics, statistics, and information systems. In addition, the application of science and technology includes a multidisciplinary approach to cover problems from different perspectives.
